Torre de Hercules - Fun Fact!

I was chatting with the history teacher at my school yesterday. He is a real Europhile and has travelled all over the place. He particularly loves Ireland and told me he feels very at home there. The Celtic connection in this part of the world is really strong, due to its westerly, Atlantic (rather than Mediterranean) position. We see lots of Spanish people here with blue eyes and red hair. So, this lovely guy told me about his trip to a museum in Dublin, where the guide told him a story of a massive lighthouse in Galicia, which legend says has a mirror at the top, which reflects the green hills of Ireland, so far can it reach. She was amazed when he told her that he is from Galicia, and children in A Coruna are told the same story when they are kids. No wonder he feels at home!! I found this on Wiki:

Another legend embodied in the 11th-century Irish compilation Lebor Gabála Érenn—the "Book of Invasions"—King Breogán, the founding father of the Galician Celtic nation, constructed a massive tower of such a grand height that his sons could see a distant green shore from its top. The glimpse of that distant green land lured them to sail north to Ireland. According to the legend Breogán's descendants stayed in Ireland and are the Celtic ancestors of the current Irish people. A colossal statue of Breogán has been erected near the Tower.

Torre de Hercules and Breogan
How cool is that?!
New fun fact tomorrow! (maybe not...) 😃
